The Queensland Government’s latest announcement to expand its so-called Adult Crime, Adult Time regime is not a plan for community safety. It is a political decision to imprison more children.
The proposed “Breach Bail, Go to Jail” laws will create a new offence for children accused of breaching bail and impose mandatory imprisonment if they are alleged to have committed certain offences while on bail. ‘Rather than addressing why children come into contact with the criminal legal system, the Government has chosen to deepen their involvement in it,’ said Debbie Kilroy, CEO of Sisters Inside.
